Smartphone Applications for Cancer Detection

A mobile phone application that can detect cancer and claimed to be more accurate than the usual tests done in hospital, has developed a number of scientists.
Applications that are compatible with mobile smartphone is claimed 100 percent accurate in distinguishing between benign and malignant cancers. Amazingly, the application only takes one hour to diagnose cancer, which means that patients no longer need to wait days or weeks to be the result.
Researchers in the United States also said that the gadget could facilitate physicians to track how effective a given drug against cancer cells in the patient's body.
In an experiment, the application is yet to be named had a 88 percent accuracy to distinguish cancer or a tumor in the abdomen. After several stages of development, the journal Science Translational Medicine also reported that smartphone applications are already reaching levels of 100 percent accuracy.
The workings of gadgets that developed at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston is an application connects to smartphones using miniature machine MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). When testing, patients suspected of suffering from stomach cancer hair samples taken using tiny needles.
The researchers then added a sample of antibodies to bind to a protein found in the stomach tumor cells. Tiny magnetic particles and then fitted to the antibody.
The magnets are then inserted in an MRI machine to stimulate the molecules in the sample, making it vibrate. Molecules vibrate faster and faster, the more likely the patient is suffering from cancer.
"Applications for this smartphone is a convenient tool for doctors, because its shape is easily grasped and placed in a small room," said Dr. Cesar Castro, one of the research team, was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
